How to Create and Save a Custom Message Search

Has there ever been a time when you wanted to filter the messages in your BlackBerry’s inbox to see only the outgoing messages, or only the messages from a certain individual? The steps below detail this process. In this example we will create and save a custom search for all incoming PIN messages:

  1. Access the Messages folder on your BlackBerry device.
  2. Press the BlackBerry menu key (or click the scroll wheel) and select Search from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to the Show field and press the ALT key. This will show you a list of the different options.
  4. Highlight Received Only, then press Enter.
  5. Scroll down to the Type field, press the ALT key, select PIN, then press Enter.
  6. Press the menu key (or scroll wheel) and then select Save from the menu.
  7. You will now be at the Save Search dialog box. Type in the Title section “Incoming PINs”.
  8. Scroll to the Shortcut Key (Alt +) field.
  9. Press the ALT key to bring up a selection of available letters. The letter you choose here will be pressed along with the ALT key to run this search later. In this example I will select ‘e’.
  10. Press the menu key again and select Save.

Now that the search is saved it will automatically run, and show you the incoming PIN messages. To get out of that view, simply press the Escape button. To run the search in the future, simply open the Messages folder and press ALT and then letter you chose.
